Our school values

Our code of conduct represents our values that influence everything that we do and we expect all members of our community to reflect these.  They are:

Kindness

Courtesy

Determination

Honesty

Respect

We inspire - our learning

All classes in the Preps, from Nursery to Year 6, are led by qualified teachers and teaching assistants. As an all-through school, our Prep pupils benefit from specialist senior school teachers used for subjects such as PE, Art, Languages, Science and Music. The careful curriculum planning and delivery ensures that the children develop their skills and talents to their full potential. Activities are varied and take into account all individuals and the ways in which they learn.

We recognise that the transitions between key stages and year groups are vital steps in a child’s education, and so the staff at Babington House work collaboratively with each other and our parents to ensure that the learning journey for each child is as positive and smooth as possible.

Assessments are carried out in every year group in the form of teacher judgements and, from Year 1 upwards, more formal testing is also used. These assessments enable the teachers to tailor their lessons to the children’s needs and ensure high academic outcomes with all children reaching their individual potential.

KS2 Enrichment afternoons:

Beyond core subjects we offer our Key Stage 2 pupils our Enrichment programme. This provides children with the fantastic opportunity to try different skills or activities that they may not have tried before outside of the core curriculum.

Options to choose from include activities such as; Horse Riding, Football, Netball, Coding, Construction, Community Recruits, Yoga, Drama and many more. Pupils enjoy their chosen activity once a week within the school day.

These options provide our pupils with the opportunity to develop their teamwork, show resilience and meet new friends across the year groups, whilst learning new and exciting skills.

The Rossel Scholar Programme:

The Rossel Scholar Programme aims to further enhance the offer for our children and prepare those selected for a potential scholarship to our outstanding senior school.

The programme has been designed to reflect our school traditions and further enhance our outstanding academic offer to our pupils. It also aims to develop our Senior School Scholars from a young age on a clear pathway, just as Madame Rossel dreamt of all those years ago.

All Year 2 children attending Babington House, or those committed to joining the school at the beginning of Year 3 will be automatically considered for the programme.

You can find out more here.

We challenge - beyond the classroom

Enrichment – clubs:

We believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. That’s why we offer a rich and varied co-curricular programme that allows children to discover new interests and develop various skills.

For those who enjoy intellectual challenges, we offer clubs such as Debating and Chess. Students with a passion for the arts and music can join our Choir, take part in Instrumental Ensembles, or explore their creativity in Art Club. For those drawn to physical activity and adventure, we have a dynamic range of sports, including Football, Rugby, Netball, Climbing Wall, and Taekwondo. For our budding chefs, we offer our Chef’s Whiskers Club.  There is something for every child to enjoy.

Clubs are held at lunchtime or after school, providing great opportunities for social interaction, self-expression, and confidence-building.

Clubs booking:

When you start, you will be given access to SOCS – our online platform where you will able to view and book on to our clubs.

Towards the end of the Summer term, you will be sent a notification when Autumn term clubs are available for booking along with your log in details for SOCS.

In the meantime, a full list of available clubs can be viewed on the Parent Portal

Educational trips:

Educational trips and outings play a key role in bringing learning to life and are included within the fees.

We run popular educational school trips both in this country and abroad across our Prep and Senior school.  Being conveniently located close to Elmstead Woods train station which is only a 15-minute journey into the heart of the capital, we can take full advantage of the cultural life of London, and to draw upon the museums, galleries, theatres and concert halls on our doorstep.

Going further afield, in our Prep School years 3 through to 6 pack their bags and enjoy a residential trip where they enjoy a whole range of outdoor pursuits.

We nurture - feeling safe and happy

Children learn best when they feel safe and valued.  Babington House is a happy community where every child is known and celebrated.

  • From the start, children build strong relationships with our specialist  staff.
  • Children thrive within our caring and supportive learning environment.
  • We help children settle, make friends, and feel secure.

Key Staff Contacts

At Babington House, we understand how important it is for parents to feel connected and supported.  Our Prep School is led by Mrs Channon and the school is overseen by our Headteacher, Mr. David Laird, whose vision and leadership guide our whole-school community.

Additional Information

Healthy Eating

“The food is delicious, I love the pudding!” – Darcey, Year 6

Lunchtime is an important part of our school day where our pupils will enjoy a tasty, healthy meal with their classmates.

Everything is made on site by our fantastic catering team – Holroyd Howe – using fresh ingredients, seasonal produce and locally sourced where possible. School meals are included in the school fees.

Our Menu:
Our weekly changing lunch menu provides a wide variety of hot main courses, including classic, traditional, and favourite dishes and new ideas to try. We also offer a delicious vegetarian option, pasta dishes, or jacket potatoes, served with seasonal vegetables or salad and accompaniments.  Our weekly menu can be found on the parent portal. Click here to view a sample menu.

Special dietary requirements:

The Catering Team recognise that an increasing number of children suffer from allergies and intolerances. Additionally, many children have food preferences; this may be for many reasons, including religion, beliefs, or lifestyle choices.
We try to ensure everyone’s needs are met. No nuts or sesame are used in food production at Babington. However, some items are manufactured in environments that also handle some of the 14 listed Allergens, so we class these as ‘May Contain’, which are clearly labelled.
In addition to Foundation Food Allergen training for every team member, five of our 8-strong team are Allergy Champions who assist the staff and pupils in making safe food choices.
